Exploring Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo: A Must-Try Exclusive Tour Experience 2025

Hi!! I’m OKAERI that is traveler all over the world :))

OKAERI TRAVEL」 concept is to go on a highly satisfying trip tomorrow! I’d love to introduce fun places by local voice!

Do you addict to Starbucks??
I really love it X)) and been to a Starbucks full of local characteristics!

As you may know , Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo.
In addition , they have a Roastery Tour session and some wonderful events!!

I participated in the exclusive Roastery Tour session at Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo !

If you live in the Tokyo metropolitan area or are a Starbucks enthusiast from anywhere in the world, I highly recommend it!
So, I’m proudly recommend and introduce you Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo and its session X))

One of only six Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in the world, this location features an in-house roasting facility.

It’s about a 15-minute walk from Nakameguro or Ikejiri-Ohashi stations. The access isn’t the most convenient, but those who’ve been there will understand—its charm makes up for it!

In spring, the Meguro River in front of the Roastery is lined with beautiful cherry blossoms, and in early summer, Annabelle hydrangeas bloom in full glory. The building, made with abundant cedar wood, creates a serene escape from hustle and bustle of the city

The beans used for “Tokyo Roast,” a blend available across Japan, are roasted right here at Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo!

Tokyo roast is packing here!!

Inside, the space is breathtaking, reminiscent of a museum or gallery. Every detail carries a story, and even if you don’t join a session, Starbucks fans should definitely visit!

At the AMU Inspiration Lounge inside the Roastery, exclusive sessions are held. (AMU, meaning “to weave,” represents the idea of people gathering, connecting, and weaving together new ideas.)

Examples of sessions include:

  • Coffee Session: First Session / Your Journey / Farm to Cup
  • Roastery Tour: Manufacturing
  • ARRIVIAMO™ Session: Coffee Meets Whiskey
  • TEAVANA™ Session: Matcha Experience

It’s not just about coffee—you can also explore whiskey and tea experiences!

While Starbucks stores nationwide offer coffee seminars, these Roastery sessions are interactive rather than one-sided lectures.

Additionally, they introduce exclusive Roastery Tokyo products along with other special elements.

Curious about what happens during the session? So was I! However, there’s very little information or reviews available.

Why? Because Starbucks specifically asks participants not to reveal details so that future attendees can fully enjoy the experience.

But I can say this—if you love Starbucks, coffee, or design and architecture, you’ll absolutely love this session!

The tour brings to life the meaning and stories behind everything you see, making you appreciate Starbucks even more.

Stylish murals up to the stairs

Since the participation fee isn’t exactly cheap, most attendees were serious Starbucks fans. Many even return multiple times, as the content varies depending on the facilitator!

The cost breakdown:

  • Drinks, snacks, and souvenirs included = approx. 4,200 yen
  • Plus the tour experience

At 4,950 yen, it’s a fair price!

Also, if you use the Starbucks app, you can earn Stars (points), making it even more rewarding.

Since I booked a weekday session, all attendees were solo participants.

Men and women from their 20s to 70s joined, with a common love for Starbucks. Some collected Starbucks cards and My Store Passports, which was a first for me to see!

Even if you don’t visit Starbucks often, the small group (under eight people) creates a friendly and interactive atmosphere, making it a great experience for anyone.

Highly recommended for:

  • Coffee and Starbucks enthusiasts
  • Fans of architecture (including Kengo Kuma’s designs)
  • Those who love factory tours and manufacturing processes

Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo is fun to explore on your own, but participating in a session makes it even more enjoyable!

Even if you don’t join a tour, take a close look at the space—hidden comments and displays are scattered throughout.

The architectural centerpiece, the Sakura Cask*, is impressive on its own, but don’t forget to check out the details in the elevators and staircases. The thoughtful designs and underlying stories add an emotional depth to the experience.

*Sakura means Cherry blossoms, Sakura Cask shows the roasting equipment installed at Roastery Tokyo.

Check if the session includes food and drinks

The Roastery Tour I attended provided a satisfying amount of drinks and food (enough for most women), so make sure to come with an appetite! Each session’s details are listed in the course description.

Allow extra time before and after the session

After the session, attendees often stick around chatting—I ended up staying for about an hour afterward!

Payments can be made through the Starbucks app or Starbucks cards. You earn one Star for every 54 yen spent. My session earned me 91.6 Stars, and with 100 Stars, you can get 300 yen off food, or with 150 Stars, you can redeem 700 yen worth of drinks, food, or coffee beans! Additional perks include discounts on second cups of drip coffee and early access to special releases.

Weekend sessions sell out fast!

Starbucks fans from all over Japan flock to the Roastery. While weekday sessions sometimes have last-minute availability, weekends are almost always fully booked.

New session schedules are announced via Starbucks Japan’s official Instagram Reels, so be sure to follow them!

The Roastery isn’t just about coffee; it hosts a variety of creative events.

I wonder what’s going on! And if you look closely…do you remember this paper Starbucks fan?

For example, in August 2024, they’re holding THE B-SIDE OF STARBUCKS, a nighttime event from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM featuring unique art and curated books with black covers for a serendipitous discovery experience.

It’s a subtle and underrated event, but for those who appreciate deep storytelling and art, it’s a must-see. The best time to visit is after 7:00 PM when the ambiance truly comes to life.

I introduced Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo and its exclusive Roastery Tour session.

Before attending, I assumed that most Starbucks fans were into Frappuccinos, but the participants I met were all true coffee lovers!

If you’re a Starbucks enthusiast, why not plan a visit and join a session?
